Frequently asked questions

At Maddox Orthodontics, we are always more than happy to talk to our patients about orthodontics. We love what we do so it makes sense that we love to talk about it as well! To help put our patients at ease, we always endeavor to answer their questions.

Below are some of the most common questions we get asked about treatment. If you have a question, see if we’ve answered it below. If not, please get in touch. We’ll be happy to answer it for you.

What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics is the specialist arm of dentistry that is dedicated to the correct alignment of a patient’s teeth and jaws.

What qualifications does an orthodontist have?

An orthodontist will have started out as a dentist, but after a few years of experience in the dental field, decided to pursue further postgraduate study into the field of orthodontics. Once this is complete (three years), they will be qualified in the specialist area of orthodontics.

Does orthodontic treatment hurt?

No, treatment doesn’t hurt. At times, you may experience some mild discomfort after your check-up appointment but this can be relieved with over-the-counter pain relief.

How long does orthodontics treatment take?

This depends on what treatment you require, but on average, most people wear braces or another orthodontic appliance for between 12 and 24 months.

How much does orthodontics treatment cost?

This also depends on the extent of orthodontic treatment you require. Major orthodontic work will always cost more than just the straightening or one or two crooked teeth. Some appliances are more expensive than others too. We’ll provide you with a quote for your treatment at your free consultation but you can find out more information about our fees on our cost and finance page.

Will my insurance cover my braces?

Many dental insurance plans cover orthodontic treatments like braces and Invisalign. Give us a call at 909-394-7710 and let us help you determine the exact coverage your carrier will provide for your treatment.

Do you offer Invisalign?

Yes we do. Our specialist orthodontist, Dr Ron Maddox is highly experienced using this virtually invisible treatment method.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

Yes, at Maddox Orthodontics you’re always a candidate for Invisalign. Our team are highly experienced using these virtually invisible, clear plastic aligners, so no matter what your orthodontic problem may be, Invisalign can be used to fix it and achieve the beautiful smile you're hoping for.

What age should my child wear braces?

Most children will benefit from braces during their teenage years; however, we do recommend children have an early consultation around the age of seven, which is when we can assess your child’s orthodontic needs and plan for future treatment.

Am I too old to wear braces?

No-one is ever too old to wear braces, nor is anyone too old to have orthodontic treatment to achieve the smile they’ve always dreamed of. However, we do understand that some of our patients are self-conscious about wearing braces as an adult. At Maddox Orthodontics, we have discreet treatment options available, such as Invisalign, which means people won’t even know you’re having treatment.
